The Distillery

Often referred to by the name of the last business to operate there, Race Street Lumber is a six-acre parcel of land in Meadville’s Fifth Ward, where one of the country’s largest distilleries produced barrel after barrel of Meadville Rye Whiskey before succumbing to the Temperance Movement and Prohibition. Following a period of due diligence, the Society has recently taken control of this historic property that has sat vacant for almost 20 years, with plans to transform its campus into a destination that fosters community and showcases this area’s creativity and craftsmanship.
